重力をたたえる器として
１枚の羽をしつらえた間接照明
長さ１m／直径１０cmの透明な筒に１枚の羽を入れて
中から風を送り込むことで、羽が浮き沈みする間接照明。
マニュアルモードでは羽を好きな高さに調整できるほか
オートモードでは重力による羽の自然落下と
重力に逆らってゆったり宙に浮く姿をお楽しみいただけます。

有機物/無機物と問わず、わたしたちの誰もが、
重力という力に日々さらされていることを知っています。
ですが、わたしたちは重力の何を、
“本当に知って”いるのでしょうか。
少なくとも、量子力学をはじめとする最先端科学では
重力という不思議な現象をまだ完全に解明できていません。
わたしたちがいま、ここに存在するということ。
いま瞬間も、地球上で暮らす全存在とともに
この星のとおい中心にむかって結ばれているということ。
その、はるかさ。
あまりの、おびただしさ。
おそろしいまでの、ひとしさ。
このひろい世界で
わたしと関わりのないものは
何ひとつないのだと
すっかり打ちのめされてしまいました。
作品の構造が立ち上がったのは
１枚の羽が、ゆったりと落ちる姿をみた時。
重力の存在をたたえるのにふさわしい器が
こんなにも身近にあったのだと、目を見張りました。
間接照明としてお使いいただけるようしつらえましたが
器を生活の中で嗜めるようにする些細な配慮にすぎません。
この作品を鑑賞しながら、
部屋をじっくりと見渡してみてください。
そのすべてが、どうしようもなく
重力という力にひとしくさらされています。

“Bowl for Gravity” is an indirect lighting fixture consisting of a single feather inside a transparent cylinder measuring 1 m in length and 10 cm in diameter. It works by blowing air into the cylinder, causing the feather to rise and fall.
In Manual Mode, you can fix the feather at any height you like or raise and lower it. In Auto Mode, you can enjoy the alternating sight of the feather falling naturally under the force of gravity and floating gently in the air, defying gravity.

Whether organic or inorganic, we all know that we are exposed to the force of gravity every day. But what exactly do we “truly know” about gravity? At the very least, cutting-edge science — including quantum mechanics — has not yet fully elucidated this mysterious phenomenon of gravity.
The fact that we exist here and now. Even as we read these words, we are connected — along with every living being on Earth — to the distant center of this planet.
That vastness.
That overwhelming abundance.
That terrifying sense of oneness.
In this vast world, there is not a single thing that has no connection to me — I was completely overwhelmed by this realization. The structure of this work took shape when I saw a single feather falling gently. I was astonished to discover that a bowl so fitting to celebrate the existence of gravity was right here, so close at hand.
I designed it to be used as indirect lighting, but this is merely a small consideration to allow you to savor the bowl as part of your daily life.
As you admire this piece, please take a moment to look carefully around your room. Everything in it is, inescapably, equally subject to the force of gravity.
